Code Snippet

If you don’t use Gutenberg to build your WordPress pages, you may want to disable “blocks” in the appearance > widgets section, and restore the classic widgets.

PHP

Place the following code anywhere in your child theme’s functions.php document.

// put classic version of widgets back
function classic_widgets_page() {
    remove_theme_support( 'widgets-block-editor' );
}
add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'classic_widgets_page' );

This will replace the new “blocks” version of the appearance > widgets section with the classic look.

I found this necessary on a site built using Elementor, because the blocks widgets section would load with a bunch of errors and be difficult to work with.

Note

All modifications to a theme or plugin should be made by creating a child theme and placing the changes there. Changes made to the parent theme will be overwritten the next time it updates.

We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
