Quick Reference

The SQL Server AVG() function returns the average value of an expression (NULL values are ignored).

The following gets the average of the price column values from the Products table.

SELECT AVG(price) AS 'Average Price' FROM Products;

Output

Average Price
22.9554

Syntax

AVG(expression)

SQL Notes:

  • Any work being done to modify the structure of a database or delete tables or the the database itself should only be done after making a recent backup
