Quick Reference
The SELECT INTO keywords copies data from one table and inserts it into another table.
The following creates a backup copy of the Customers table in a new table called CustomersBackup.
SELECT * INTO CustomersBackup
FROM Customers;
The following copies only the last_name and first_name columns from the Customers table into a new table called CustomersBackup.
SELECT last_name, first_name INTO CustomersBackup
FROM Customers;
The following copies only the Canadian customers from the Customers table into a new table called CustomersCanada.
SELECT * INTO CustomersCanada
FROM Customers
WHERE country = 'Canada';
SQL Notes:
- Any work being done to modify the structure of a database or delete tables or the the database itself should only be done after making a recent backup
