Quick Reference

The MySQL COALESCE() function returns the first non-null value in a list.

SELECT COALESCE(NULL, NULL, NULL, '1SMARTchicken.com', NULL, 'duckduckgo.com');

Output

COALESCE(NULL, NULL, NULL, '1SMARTchicken.com', NULL, 'duckduckgo.com')
1SMARTchicken.com

Syntax

COALESCE(val1, val2, val3, ...)

SQL Notes:

  • Any work being done to modify the structure of a database or delete tables or the the database itself should only be done after making a recent backup
