The MySQL CHAR_LENGTH() function returns the length of a string in characters.

The following returns the length of the string “Johnny Shay”.

SELECT CHAR_LENGTH('Johnny Shay') AS 'Length of String';

11

CHAR_LENGTH(string)

SQL Notes:
