The PHP openlog() function opens the connection of system logger.

Syntax

openlog(ident, option, facility)

Parameters

ParameterDescription
indentSpecifies a string ident that is added to each message (required)
optionSpecifies what logging options will be used when generating a log message (can be one or more of the following, separated with | ) (required):

  • LOG_CONS

  • LOG_NDELAY

  • LOG_ODELAY

  • LOG_PERROR

  • LOG_PID

facilitySpecifies what type of program is logging the message (required):

  • LOG_AUTH

  • LOG_AUTHPRIV

  • LOG_CRON

  • LOG_DAEMON

  • LOG_KERN

  • LOG_LOCAL0... LOG_LOCAL7

  • LOG_LPR

  • LOG_MAIL

  • LOG_NEWS

  • LOG_SYSLOG

  • LOG_USER - (is the only valid log type for Windows OS)

  • LOG_UUCP


PHP Notes:

  • When using PHP, single or double quotation marks are acceptable and work identically to one another; choose whichever you prefer, and stay consistent
  • Arrays count starting from zero NOT one; so item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on
