PHP Reference

Quick Reference

The PHP insteadof keyword allows you to select from which trait a method should be taken if more than one trait has a method with the same name.

<?php
trait message_1 {
    public function msg_a() {
        echo 'My favorite color is blue. ';
    }

    public function msg_b() {
        echo 'My favorite number is 8. ';
    }
}

trait message_2 {
    public function msg_a() {
        echo 'My favorite color is green. ';
    }

    public function msg_b() {
        echo 'My favorite number is 2. ';
    }
}

class my_class {
    use message_1, message_2 {
        message_1::msg_a insteadof message_2;
        message_2::msg_b insteadof message_1;
    }
}

$obj = new my_class();
$obj->msg_a();
$obj->msg_b();
?>

PHP Notes:

  • When using PHP, single or double quotation marks are acceptable and work identically to one another; choose whichever you prefer, and stay consistent
  • Arrays count starting from zero NOT one; so item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on

We’d like to acknowledge that we learned a great deal of our coding from W3Schools and TutorialsPoint, borrowing heavily from their teaching process and excellent code examples. We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
