Quick Reference

The PHP ftp_mlsd() function returns the list of files in the specified directory.

$ftp_server = 'ftp.example.com';

$ftp_conn = ftp_connect($ftp_server) or die('Could not connect to ' . $ftp_server);
$login = ftp_login($ftp_conn, $ftp_username, $ftp_userpass);

$dir = '/images';
$dirlist = ftp_mlsd($ftp_conn, $dir);

// output directory list
echo($dirlist);

// close connection
ftp_close($ftp_conn);
?>

Output

// returns the list of files from the "images" directory

Syntax

ftp_mlsd(ftp_conn, dir)

Parameters

ParameterDescription
ftp_connSpecifies the FTP connection to use (required)
dirSpecifies the name of the directory to be listed; use . to get the current directory (required)

PHP Notes:

  • When using PHP, single or double quotation marks are acceptable and work identically to one another; choose whichever you prefer, and stay consistent
  • Arrays count starting from zero NOT one; so item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on
