Quick Reference
The PHP Exception() constructor is used to create an Exception object and set some of its properties.
<?php
function divide($dividend, $divisor) {
if($divisor == 0) {
throw new Exception('Division by zero', 1);
}
return $dividend / $divisor;
}
try {
echo divide(9, 0);
}
catch(Exception $exeption) {
$code = $exeption->getCode();
$message = $exeption->getMessage();
$file = $exeption->getFile();
$line = $exeption->getLine();
echo "Exception thrown in $file on line $line: [Code $code]
$message";
}
?>
Output
Exception thrown in /home/test.php on line 8: [Code 1] Division by zero
Syntax
new Exception(message, code, previous)
Parameters
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
message | A string describing why the exception was thrown |
code | An integer that can be used used to easily distinguish this exception from others of the same type |
previous | If this exception was thrown in a catch block of another exception, it is recommended to pass that exception into this parameter |
PHP Notes:
- When using PHP, single or double quotation marks are acceptable and work identically to one another; choose whichever you prefer, and stay consistent
- Arrays count starting from zero NOT one; so item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on
We’d like to acknowledge that we learned a great deal of our coding from W3Schools and TutorialsPoint, borrowing heavily from their teaching process and excellent code examples. We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
