Quick Reference
The PHP dns_get_record() function gets the DNS resource records associated with the specified hostname.
<?php
print_r(dns_get_record('1smartchicken', DNS_MX));
?>
Syntax
dns_get_record(hostname, type, authns, addtl, raw)
Parameters
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
hostname | Specifies a hostname (like "www.1smartchicken.com") (required) |
type | Specifies the resource record type to search for:
|
authns | Passed by reference and, if set, it will be populated with Resource Records for the Authoritative Name Servers |
addtl | Passed by reference and, if set, it will be populated with any Additional Records |
raw | A Boolean value; if set to TRUE, it queries only the requested type instead of looping type-by-type before getting the info stuff (default is FALSE) |
PHP Notes:
- When using PHP, single or double quotation marks are acceptable and work identically to one another; choose whichever you prefer, and stay consistent
- Arrays count starting from zero NOT one; so item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on
We’d like to acknowledge that we learned a great deal of our coding from W3Schools and TutorialsPoint, borrowing heavily from their teaching process and excellent code examples. We highly recommend both sites to deepen your experience, and further your coding journey. We’re just hitting the basics here at 1SMARTchicken.
