Quick Reference

The PHP array_chunk() function splits an array into chunks of new arrays.

<?php
$my_cars = array('Lamborghini', 'Ferrari', 'Maserati', 'Alfa Romeo');
print_r(array_chunk($my_cars, 2));
?>

Note

Arrays count starting from zero NOT one. So item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on.

Output

Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => Lamborghini [1] => Ferrari ) [1] => Array ( [0] => Maserati [1] => Alfa Romeo ) )

Syntax

array_chunk(array, size, preserve_key)

Parameters

ParameterDescription
arraySpecifies the array to use (required)
sizeAn integer that specifies the size of each chunk (required)
preserve_key

  • true - preserves the keys

  • false - re-indexes the chunk numerically (default)

PHP Notes:

  • When using PHP, single or double quotation marks are acceptable and work identically to one another; choose whichever you prefer, and stay consistent
  • Arrays count starting from zero NOT one; so item 1 is position [0], item 2 is position [1], and item 3 is position [2] … and so on
