Quick Reference

The background-repeat property sets how a background image will be repeated if at all. By default, the background image is repeated both vertically and horizontally to fill the element.

These are the allowed values.

repeat-xThe background image is repeated only horizontally
repeat-yThe background image is repeated only vertically
no-repeatThe background-image is not repeated; it will only be shown once
spaceThe background-image is repeated as many times as possible without clipping; the first and last image is pinned to either side of the element, and whitespace is distributed evenly between the images
roundThe background-image is repeated and squished or stretched to fill the space with no gaps
initialSets this property to its default value
inheritInherits this property from its parent element

Using JavaScript

The HTML element can also be styled using JavaScript and the element’s id.
